the wild orchid children ascended the holy mountain last weekend. the burning bush atop the peak is still ablaze. sure everyone misses the abundance of indoor communal herb smoking but the new policies (no indoor smoking and booze) the pinnacle has adopted resulted in far less ass hole hippies and passed out tweens on the floor, who, to the holy mountain's credit, were removing immediately.
but the 'getting away with booze and smoking' aside playing the holy mountain versus the bar/venues in town is like comparing the center of a black hole with a soft tail wind.
i haven't seen a memorable show in one of seattle's premier venues in god knows how long. the last crowd i witnessed at the crocodile was a packed shirt and tie, arms folded, snooze-fest. (NOTE: didn't get to see j. reatard)
there's obviously a willingness and increasing preference for artists to perform in these settings. just look at the caliber of artists the holy mountain was booking.
some of the best in local and national music are not playing next week at neumos, chop suey or the showbox.
the dawn of the $10 - $25 dollar show is no more.
we need more of these spaces in town!
and not in a sense that we need to find all the DIY venues in town and legitimize them!
we just need more people open to the idea of creating venues and gallery spaces in their homes and businesses and a more proficient way of communicating these events without relying on mass media outlets like myspace.
so that if one of these spaces goes away a new one opens it's doors on the other side of town!
this can truly be a city of music and not just the mayor's re-election slogan.
besides that guy's a giant walking dick-head anyway.
TDO: never forget.
Something's definitely going on down there... Lo-Fi was using the Holy Mt. space during Soul Night last weekend because of some sort of fire code violation in their own main room. Could it be they're expanding on a more permanent basis?
