i haven't seen a memorable show in one of seattle's premier venues in god knows how long. the last crowd i witnessed at the crocodile was a packed shirt and tie, arms folded, snooze-fest. (NOTE: didn't get to see j. reatard)
there's obviously a willingness and increasing preference for artists to perform in these settings. just look at the caliber of artists the holy mountain was booking.
some of the best in local and national music are not playing next week at neumos, chop suey or the showbox.
the dawn of the $10 - $25 dollar show is no more.
we need more of these spaces in town!
and not in a sense that we need to find all the DIY venues in town and legitimize them!
we just need more people open to the idea of creating venues and gallery spaces in their homes and businesses and a more proficient way of communicating these events without relying on mass media outlets like myspace.
so that if one of these spaces goes away a new one opens it's doors on the other side of town!
this can truly be a city of music and not just the mayor's re-election slogan.
besides that guy's a giant walking dick-head anyway.
