What the fuck is up with you journalists that whenever you write about girl bands you feel the need to talk about how they can't play their instruments or don't try very hard?

I just came from the Coathangers show at the Comet and they totally blew everyone away. Not only could they play their own instruments better and more interestingly than so many guy bands I've seen there, but they also switched off so the drummer played bass and guitar and the guitar player played drums. There are tons of guy punk bands that sound completely generic and sloppy and boring, yet you never treat them as though they can't play, you write about how badass and raw they are. There's no way the Coathangers put their songs together in a day, but if they did, they're really fucking awesome musicians.

The Coathangers didn't sound a thing like Tacocat. I love Tacocat, but comparing the two is ridiculous and lazy. By saying stupid shit like, "If you have a spot in your heart for Tacocat, you'll love these guys," you're basically saying you can like these guys because they remind you of this other girl band rather than actually writing anything about how they stand out. The Weekly's description of this band was so much more accurate. I can't stand your paper's music writers.
