WOS proprietor <strong><a href="http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/fringe-music-central/Content?oid=5785878">Jeffery Taylor</a></strong> has curated an eclectic 87-minute blend consisting of some of his most cherished cuts, including an unreleased <a href="http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/bludgeon-and-guts/Content?oid=1064940">AFCGT</a> track. It's delightfully out of time (and full of space) and unhinged from current trends.</p> <p>I know you're probably experiencing podcast fatigue, but this one's worth powering through your laptop blues to get to the <em>muy obscuro</em> gems (<strong>Nico Fidenco, Tony Mottola, Polanie</strong>, <strong>Girls Tape Store</strong>, and <strong>Post Industrial Boys</strong> are totally new names to me, and I'm old. Not that Aldrich wasn&#8217;t already making important moves before he interned here; he was promoting quality techno nights with the <strong>Sweatbox</strong> crew, DJing said techno like a champ, and producing his own tracks that any sane techno DJ would want to spin. </p> <p>But now he&#8217;s booked for <strong>Decibel Festival</strong> (Sept. 28-Oct. 2) and has a tight podcast up on <a href="http://reviews.headphonecommute.com/2011/09/12/mix-ctrl_alt_dlt-decibel-festival-preview/<br />">Headphone Commute</a>, in which he spotlights several artists who are playing the fest. (By the way, Hopkins recently has remixed <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJhyOK5gjt8">David Lynch's "I Know."</a>)</p> <p><strong>UPDATE</strong>: Hopkins actually delved deeply into some rugged post-dubstep heaters. He was going to return it to the security desk, but then he scrolled through its contents and found, among other things, a stockpile of Rush Limbaugh podcasts, <strong>NRA podcasts</strong> (who knew those existed?), Kottonmouth Kings, and Fountains of Wayne.</p> <p>My friend does not have an iPod. Now, because of the owner's obvious political leanings and questionable taste in music, he's considering keeping this one, which he scavenged in a public restroom. I wholeheartedly agree with this observation:</p> <p><blockquote>DJing is in some sense just an extension of criticism; it's a practice of interpreting music, making arguments, of a sort, and hopefully encouraging listeners to think about the music differently than they might otherwise. RA also posted an <a href="http://www.residentadvisor.net/podcast-episode.aspx?id=222">interview</a> with Pronsato (aka <strong>Steven Ford</strong>) in which he discusses his many recent projects and some extracurricular R&D work for <a href="http://madronalabs.com/">Madrona Labs</a> boss (and renowned DJ/producer) <strong>Randy Jones</strong>' new software synth, <strong><a href="http://matrixsynth.blogspot.com/2010/07/meet-aalto.html">Aalto</a></strong>, with which he's "Just making sounds and little patches.
