You may know her as the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwzCvuj8XXA">Iron Lady</a>, the longest serving British Prime Minister of the 20th century and only woman to have held that office. To me, she was Margie aka <strong>Large n' In-Charge Marge</strong>. She was a brilliant woman who thought outside the box and was known for her uncompromising politics and leadership style. She loved Wes Anderson films, playing dominoes, and a good rugby match. Most of our time together was spent <strong>photocopying images to make punk-rock style music posters</strong>. Sadly, her time came to an end on Monday, suffering from a stroke at the young age of 87. I was lucky enough to look inside her purse before it was too late. Survivors of rape, athletes, moms, and concerned women all lugged boxes containing 72,000 petitions to the store for delivery. Reebok barred the women from entering, but two representatives met them at the door and promised to deliver the petitions to CEO Uli Becker.</p></blockquote> <p>72,000 petitions! Contrary to Ross&#8217; claims, there was no misinterpretation here: Slipping a woman a drug and &#8216;enjoying that&#8217; is rape, plain and simple.&#8221; said Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet. &#8220;It&#8217;s time for Reebok to answer the 72,000 customers who want them to stop promoting violence against women and fire Rick Ross.&#8221;</p> <p><br />"As a survivor of campus rape, I know how harmful it is when sexual violence is not recognized for what it is: a violation of another human being. To be inducted into the museum, you need to be voted in by 600 music industry members (at a conference in LA last year, an executive for the Cleveland museum <strong>admitted that females are underrepresented among the voters </strong>.) Lana goes topless AND bottomless on the cover&#8212;then has an interior shot of a <em>GQ </em>staffer grabbing her breast with one hand, and her face with the other. In the latest salvo, even before 9:00 a.m., a man was out there this morning using a <strong>shovel to dismantle Grrl Army's installation of coat hangers</strong> (a statement about illegal abortions and preventing new posters from being put up). </p> <p>Here's <strong>shovel bro</strong>:</p> <p><div class="blogImageCenter" style="width:512px;"><img src="http://www.thestranger.com/binary/37b7/1346457052-shovel_bro.jpg" alt="shovel_bro.jpg" title="" width="500" height="375" /></div></p> <p>Then Poster Giant slapped up some posters, which were up for&#8212;what&#8212;an hour? They weren't there long. A woman not affiliated with Grrl Army came by and slathered pink paint across the wall. The community is claiming this space&#8212;<em>for its shows, its art, its activism</em>. There's got to be a point at which Poster Giant is just pissing away all those expensive-to-print posters&#8212;that are getting covered right up away&#8212;in their weird obsession with monopolizing public space. Presumably at <strong>the expense of their advertisers.</strong> </p> <p>I know that if I was hiring Poster Giant, I sure as hell wouldn't want them postering that wall. Advertisers pay to print those posters and then pay Poster Giant to put them up. The posters that are put up on this wall make the advertisers look like assholes.
