Elton John to be Called “Faggot”

posted by on March 17 at 14:01 PM

As part of their “Moms Weekend” Washington State University has enlisted Elton John to perform two shows at their campus next month. I have a couple friends who went to WSU. One time my friend Kellen went to visit them for the weekend. He told me about walking to the bars on Saturday night, and how frat guys were hanging out their windows screaming “faggot” at every guy that walked by. Apparently in Pullman, anyone who is not in a fraternity is automatically a “faggot” and will be told thusly, over and over again, by strangers, all weekend. The trip was so stressful and grating on Kellen (who’s not gay) that he couldn’t take a dump for three days (possibly in fear that the toilet also would call him a faggot as soon as he dropped his pants).

The fact that gay icon Elton John is coming to Pullman is not particularly hilarious. What is hilarious is the fact that since he’s playing both April 12th and 13th, Elton John is going to have to spend the night in Pullman. He’ll probably stay in his comfy tour bus, but can you imagine what would happen if he walked around on a Saturday night? That’s a recipe for international disaster.

What else do you expect from eastern Washington? There's a reason the whole area is called the scablands, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with geology. Personally I'm glad there are mountains between them and us.

oh, doesn't it feel good to live a world away from such hate?

fuck outta here with all the frat/eastern wa. hate.

lots of people are bigots.

Jeff, sorry your friend Kellen couldnt poo for three days because of stress, but I wonder if he appreciates the use of his name to tell that story on the internet.

Elton will be fine - during Mom's Weekend, the frat boys are too busy getting smashed and trying to hook up with each others' moms.

And frat row at UW is happily accepting and super tolerant of gays, right? No, you'll never hear "faggot" uttered there on any given party night...

yeah, you can't tell if a frat boy is going to hit you or hit-on you... whether you're gay or straight.

and while the UW frat boys can be pretty bad, i'm sure they aren't even close the the WSU experience.

I grew up in Pullman, but have lived in Seattle for going on 10 years now, and i can tell you the ignorence in this post and the comments is much worse than what you are assuming exists in Pullman. Using frat boys from anywhere as a measure of a community's tolerance is fucking retarded. As for your friend who couldnt shit for 3 days, that is just laughable. A night on any greek row can be an unsettling experience, but to induce PTSD is pathetic.

I would wager a lot of money that you are more likely to get gay bashed by a marauding pack of suburban rubes in Seattle than you ever would be in Pullman.

Infrequent - guess what, the worst of the worst on WSU's greek row are from the WEST side.

@8, well eastern washington is widely regarded as the more liberal side of the state. ;)

yeah, perhaps i shouldn't speak up in this thread. having had similar experiences with frat-boy-looking-types in seattle...

but i'm just sympathizing; and it's not difficult for me to imagine it being much worse out there in pullman. having no personal experience, and no facts to back up that assertion, however, may invalidate the second half of my original comments.

for some reason, however, i still have a sneaking suspicion seattle is friendlier than pullman to the gays and gay-friendlies.

Oh please. Elton John doesn't spend the night in Pullman. And especially not in a bus! He'll be back on the private jet before the confetti settles. He may be playing Pullman (and Missoula!) but Elton is still full-on baller.
