New Music Venue in West Seattle

posted by on September 24 at 12:32 PM

The Admiral Theatre will open in October as a 400-seat venue in West Seattle. 2343 California Ave SW. One of the building’s two theatres has been renovated for music with lighting, a sound system, and an extended stage. A liquor license has been applied for as well.

The first show is Saturday, October 11th with Brent Amaker and the Rodeo, the Hands, and Panda and Angel. Animals at Night will Dj between sets and KEXP’s Troy Nelson will host.

Other than the Skylark and Easy Street Records, are there any other places for live music in West Seattle?

Dinah Brein is in charge of Admiral’s booking. If you want to play there, send a link to her – here.

The Admiral Theatre opened in 1919 as the Portola Theatre, they showed silent movies in the single room that is now the lobby. In 1942, the present theater was added and re-designed with a nautical theme by the same architect who created the ornate Hollywood Pantages in Los Angeles. The theatre is built around a nautical theme and has etched glass (with Seahorses) hanging in the lobby. In the 1940’s the exterior of the theatre sported a real ship’s mast complete with Crow’s Nest.

I want to play there, but I want to play in the theatre that's operational.

I want to play while they're showing that Cheech and Chong movie.

I want to play on a boat, in the club. A small boat.

I will be the captain

Music's cool but are they still showing movies, too? If not, that's a shame as it was a great spot to catch a flick.

I think they are going to still be showing movies. Especially Cheech and Chong.

Yes - we still are showing movies. The Gay & Lesbian organization "Three Dollar Bill" will host a retrospect October - 25-26; There will be a Frances Farmer Movie Revue the weekend of November 7 & 8 (she was the bad girl from West Seattle, and Cobain's inspiration for "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge.

This will be a hot ticket - with bands, special guests, a live theatrical scene; two of Farmers' movies and ending with the Jessica Lange award-winning movie; "Frances".

We will also be hosting a Grease-Sing-Along with a sock hop this Fall as well. Of course regular movies will continue as well. Any kind of film/music weekend you'd like to see...write me!

Spread the's all happening at the Admiral. 9 minutes from downtown Seattle, plenty of street parking; a new bar upstairs.

I've seen dozens of hardcore shows at the West Seattle American Legion Hall.
